The Future of Print Media! Part 1 of 4

Today I was asked about the future of print...

Well, where do I start?

We all have our own opinion on what is going to be the future of the media. Some of us believe that in the next ten years print media will be obsolete and others oppose that viewpoint saying that print will never become extinct because of accessibility and history. But, because this is my blog I can only speak for myself and give a hypothesis on this issue.

I want to look at this question from a different perspective that many of us don't consider. Print has been around for years now ever since the first printed newspaper in 1690, "Publick Occurrences", and has grown to be one of the many staples that have shaped out country and mindsets. Also, with the transference of newspapers and magazines to online forms, yes, this is a great thing and what may come to be the future, but there are things we aren't taking into consideration.

According to the US Census Bureau, "about 62 percent of households reported using Internet access in the home in 2007." But if print were to go completely electronic what would happen to those other 38 percent of Americans? Are they just meant to be ignorant of the world around them and make uninformed decisions about everyday life, including voting?

We must begin to release our personal wants and look to those who either aren't as fortunate as we are or are just unable to obtain the opportunity we do. The reality is not everyone is able to use these types of media to connect to information.

So, to answer the age old question "Where is print media going?” I say this. Print media will be around for many years to come. Whether it's a newspaper, magazine or even a brochure it's here to stay! We will have future advancements but nothing will be completely one way or the other.
