According to gaebler.com, "It has been estimated that the average cost of producing a 30-second national TV commercial is nearly $350,000." Does your company/business have that kind of money? If so you're pretty lucky (considering the recession we are in). If you're not rolling in the dough and can't afford a tv spot, what can you do?
PR is the simple and easy answer!
In Al Ries' and Laura Ries' book "The Fall of Advertising & The Rise of PR", they go into great detail about why PR is the sun and advertising is the wind.
I borrowed the book from a friend that works for my university's marketing department. She told me that it would help to put a lot of things into perspective when it come to the concept of PR, and that it did.
I read the book in a few weeks (finals week), and found that there was a lot of information in this book that I don't believe I would have found anywhere else. The way that the concepts are explained are very easy to understand, because each one has laid out examples.
As a PR student, I recommend this book for all who are interested. Although the book is a little old(2002),I still found it to be relevant to the way things are now. If you are confused about the differences between PR and advertising or just want to know more about either, pick up this book and get to reading! =]
