Position Purpose- Communications Interns are assigned a variety of projects to further their understanding of the communications and media relations field while gaining valuable real-world experience. Communications Intern will learn multiple forms of communication work as part of a departmental team.
- Main intern duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting the team in researching and developing news releases, pitches and other media materials;
- Assisting in the creation and implementation of social media programs,
- Proofing collateral, including calendar listings;
- Copying and archiving media clips;
- Assisting in the planning, implementation and staffing of special events;
- Attending communication team meetings;
- Providing administrative assistance when needed.
Much of the work will support major events and exhibitions including American Indian reinstallation, Blink! and Cities of Splendor.
· Interns commit to 15-20 hours a week for the spring semester, scheduling is flexible.
Education or Formal TrainingCurrently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Journalism, Communications or English academic studies. Must have a strong interest in public relations and communications coursework, electronic and social media, as well as excellent written and verbal skills.
Candidates are encourages to have and communicate in correspondence a strong idea of what they would like to learn from their internship experience.
Additional Information This is a part-time internship that can be used for academic credit, and includes great perks but no financial compensation.
